Who is a Clinical Psychologist?

A clinical psychologist is a health professional who has a master's degree in clinical psychology, which includes the necessary practical applications in clinical settings, after completing undergraduate education in psychology or psychological counseling and guidance.

Clinical psychologists use objective and reflective measurement tools, observation and interview techniques to perform psychological assessment and psychotherapy in cases that are not defined as illnesses in international diagnosis and classification systems and that the Ministry of Health deems appropriate. In cases of illness, they perform psychotherapy only in accordance with the diagnosis and treatment guidance of the relevant specialist physician.

Clinical psychologists cannot independently and individually diagnose, prescribe medication or provide treatment. This authority belongs to Psychiatrists.

Who is a Psychological Counselor?

Psychological counselors are individuals who have received undergraduate education in the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance (PCG). In Türkiye, in order to use this title, it is necessary to graduate from the PCG undergraduate departments of universities.

"A psychological counselor" is a professional who provides guidance and support to help individuals cope with emotional, social, academic or personal challenges they face in their lives. Psychological counseling includes goals such as developing the individual's potential, supporting decision-making processes or finding solutions to daily life problems. Psychological counselors focus on improving the individual's quality of life.

Psychological counselors mostly work in schools, educational institutions, career centers or private counseling offices. For example, they can provide support to students on issues such as academic success, time management, efficient work, motivation, self-confidence, procrastination, test anxiety, friendships, family communication, technology addiction, adolescence problems or field selection, university preferences and career planning.

Psychological Counselors cannot make independent and individual diagnoses, prescribe medication or provide treatment. This authority belongs to Psychiatrists.
